Dying as an Engineer
Me.
I believe that as engineers, we always need to have some kind of purpose.
It doesn’t matter if it’s for the future, for society, or even if it’s completely meaningless.
Because my underlying philosophy is greedy optimization of life.
So, as you can see if you check my GitHub , I’ve always been doing something, especially over the last two or three years.
However, right now, I am dead. Nothing comes to mind that I want to do. Absolutely nothing. I don’t have anything I want to try out, nor is there anything I’m curious about.
Honestly, it feels like a disease.
I think this whole escapism stems from the fact that nothing related to my lab is going well. Though if that’s the case, I should just work on my research.
Yeah, exactly. I have no excuse for that.
I’m working on it little by little, but I really feel the pain of realizing I’m the type of person who gets lost easily because the solution space is too broad. I’m the type who lacks a solid sense of self.
That being said, today I suddenly wanted to test the performance of ChatGPT 6-Astra, so I had it build a super minimal editor. It definitely felt like the developer experience was better than ChatGPT 5.6-Sol. But from a UI/UX perspective, it still has a long way to go. Though that’s probably just because my prompt was bad.
What I built ↓
I had it built with:
- Tauri
- WebView
- SQLite
First, I fleshed out the specifications with Sol High, and then handed them off to Astra—that kind of workflow (can I even call this a workflow?).
It’s still pretty rough around the edges, but I feel like I managed to include the bare minimum of what I wanted.
To use it, you’ll need a dev environment with Git, Bun, and Rust, but I trust that if you’re reading my blog, you already have them. You do, right?? Right?
Apparently, there’s an app called Drafts for macOS, but I felt petty about it, so I had AI build one for me.
I’m thinking I can just take it easy and slowly bring myself back to life like this. It feels like times like this are when you shouldn’t rush, don’t you think? Not that I really know.
Oh well, whatever. I’ll stop around here.
Until next time.
