How Did This Happen to Me

Me.

Yesterday, I joined ABC472 as Unrated.

More precisely, I thought I had joined as Unrated.

What happened

I only planned to look at the problems while having a drink.

I was out, too, so I was coding on my phone.

I had zero intention of putting my rating on the line. So, obviously, Unrated.

I got two CEs on problem A, finally got it accepted, and called it a day. I was drinking, I was on my phone, and that felt like enough.

I was Unrated, right? Solving one problem was plenty.

Then, after the contest, I checked my AtCoder profile and saw this:

My rating had dropped from 933 to 863.

My AtCoder profile after ABC472. Rating: 933 to 863, a change of -70.

Th-this is so freaking stuuupid~~~

━━━ crap, crap, crap.

According to my competition history, I placed 9,816th, with a performance of 122 and a rating change of -70.

My rating melted away

After hitting 965 at ABC467, it went:

  1. ABC468: 955
  2. ABC469: 933
  3. ABC472: 863

That is a total loss of 102 across three Rated contests.

Total: -102.

A perfectly clean decreasing sequence.

This is seriously way too bad to be funny.

I am so freaking mad~~~.

If I had known I was Rated, there is no way I would have stopped after problem A. But complaining now will not bring that rating back.

Next time I join as Unrated, I am checking that it actually says Unrated instead of trusting my memory of what I clicked.

Seriously, everyone, please be careful. I am probably the only person who would make this mistake, though.

See you next time.
